Kyoto
Kyoto Protocol: On December 11, 1997, the Kyoto protocol was adopted in Kyoto, Japan. The protocol was entered into force on February 16, 2005 after the Russian
Federation ratification 90 days prior. The Kyoto protocol is intended to limit greenhouse gas production by countries having “binding targets” (Williams & Zakrison, 2007). The United States has signed but has not yet ratified the Kyoto protocol, China and India have signed and ratified but don’t have a “binding target”. In other words, because China and India are developing countries, they are not expected to reduce emissions on their own. They
receive aid from developed countries to help them grow.
